He continued his studies at the National Gallery and the Tate Museum in London. He moved to Montreal from the year 1915 and joined the group of Beaver Hall alongside Anne Savage, Edwin Holgate and Robert Pilot among others.He did his military service for the Canadian army during the First World War. He was then solicited to make portraits and posters for the Canadian Pacific.
