This historical drama film directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin stars Aleksandr Khanov as the Russian merchant Kuzma Minin (d. 1616) and Boris Livanov as the Russian prince Dmitry Pozharsky (1577-1642) who became heroes by forming the Second Volunteer Army to fight against the Polish forces under led by Jan Karol Chodkiewicz (c. 1561-1621), resulting in the Russian victory in the Battle of Moscow in 1612 during the Time of Troubles (1598-1613).
