xxiii, [1], vii, [3], 183pp, [3]. With a coloured engraved frontispiece, and two etchings on India paper. Contemporary calf-backed decorative purple cloth boards, stamped and lettered in gilt. Rubbed, spine dulled. Typed booksellers description and review extracted from contemporary periodical pasted to FEP, very occasional light spotting. A ballad book from Scottish antiquary and artist Charles Kirkpatrick Sharpe (1781?—1851), who had previously contributed to the second volume of Walter Scott's Border Minstrelsy. The original issue of this ballad book was limited to thirty copies, likely to add to its value by limitation, but potentially also due to the author's feeling that the contents were not suited for public audiences. It would later be privately reprinted, restricted still to only a further 155 copies. Size: 8vo.

Store description
Established 2007, Antiquates Ltd is an Antiquarian bookseller with a large, custom built shop in the heart of the Dorset countryside. We sell fine and rare books from our Wareham shop, in catalogues, and via our website (www.antiquates.co.uk). Specialising in early printed books both English and Continental, fine English Literature, and books by, for, and about Women and Children, we nevertheless stock a wide range of works on paper from 1500-present - including modern first editions. Our bias is towards the unusual, the interesting and the important - and always have a good stock of rare books by local authors such as T.E. Lawrence and Thomas Hardy; we are just the place if you're looking for an extra-special gift for a wedding, birthday, anniversary or graduation. (Open Wednesday - Saturday, 10am-4pm)…
