Add to basketFolio. (ii), (ii), iv, 42, (2) pp. Original cloth backed boards, printed label to the upper cover. 21 fine hand coloured plates of ancient coins variously coloured in yellow (gold) and silver with additional hand colouring demarcating the geographical regions. The boards stained and worn, the spine ends neatly repaired, the contents generally very good. A magnificent numismatic atlas illustrating ancient coins through the ages and further broken down by country. The kingdoms of Sicily, Epirus, Macedonia, Thrace and Illyria represent the European extents, thereafter the bulk of the chart is devoted to the coins of the Levant comprehending the kingdoms of Asia Minor, Egypt, Syria and Judea amongst others in the general region. The work was issued in two forms: a folding chart, dissected and mounted on linen, or as separate plates in book form, with the added benefit of letterpress text, as here. Both formats were published in 1829 though it is impossible ascribe precedence for either state. Neither is common.
