Esemplare con fioriture e bruniture usuali dovute alla qualit? di carta, qualche macchia alla legatura.Gregorio Salvini stava continuando la guerra ideologica che era stata condotta contro Genova dal 1729, e stava quindi dirigendo la maggior parte dei suoi sforzi contro il principale teorico dei diritti genovesi, l'ex vescovo di Sagonte Pier-Maria Giustiniani: Giulio-Matteo Natali aveva pubblicato due importanti testi a favore dei Corsi, Lettera d'un Corso nel 1732 e Disinganno nel 1736, e monsignor Giustiniani aveva risposto con una Lettera d'incerto autore (1732) e una Risposta (1737). Gregorio Salvini contraddice punto per punto la Risposta, ma Pier-Maria Giustiniani risponde nuovamente nel 1759 con Riflessioni, che inducono Gregorio Salvini a pubblicare un'edizione ampliata della sua Giustificazione dedicata a Pasquale Paoli. Gregorio Salvini dimostrÚ la tirannia di Genova e sviluppÚ un'argomentazione basata sulla teoria del diritto naturale, sottolineando che era in gioco la sopravvivenza di un intero popolo, denunciando l'assenza di diritti legittimi sotto la tutela genovese (poneva questa legittimit? dalla parte del papato e dei feudatari), lamentando l'esclusione dalle cariche, che venivano consegnate alla nobilt? genovese indigente che veniva cosÏ incoraggiata alla corruzione, e deplorando lo svilimento della nobilt? corsa. Era anche favorevole al liberalismo economico, che Ë stato paragonato alle idee fisiocratiche e che egli opponeva all'arcaismo dei genovesi. D'altra parte, non prestÚ molta attenzione ai problemi della popolazione rurale, che fu un sostenitore essenziale della rivoluzione corsa. Per ironia della sorte, si stupÏ che Genova potesse criticare la rivolta corsa quando essa stessa era stata in grado di giustificare le sue rivolte contro i re di Francia. SottolineÚ che la situazione rivoluzionaria in Corsica rappresentava un pericolo per l'Europa, dati gli appetiti suscitati dalla posizione strategica dell'isola e i rischi di una conflagrazione generale. Infine, non nascose che l'interlocutore essenziale di questa Giustificazione era la Francia, alla quale propose di istituire un protettorato che rispettasse i diritti dei Corsi. GREGORIO SALVINI (1696-1789), uno dei fidi di PASQUALE PAOLI, nacque da una nobile famiglia della Balagne ed entrÚ negli Ordini sacri dopo la morte della moglie. A Roma, nel 1730, conobbe Erasmo Orticoni, canonico di Aleria, giunto in missione presso il Papa, e attraverso di lui iniziÚ a partecipare alla lotta nazionale: cercÚ appoggi a Livorno, passÚ le armi al re Teodoro (pur non nutrendo illusioni su di lui), e negoziÚ a Napoli la creazione del reggimento di Corsica (in cui militava Pasquale Paoli). Partecipando alle trattative con un inviato francese, si rese conto che Luigi XV non sarebbe venuto in loro aiuto e cercÚ di trovare un equilibrio tra il popolo e i francesi per salvare l'essenziale, uno status favorevole per l'isola liberata dalla dura tutela genovese. Considerato un traditore dai corsi e un agente spagnolo dai francesi, andÚ in esilio per un certo periodo, prima a Napoli nel 1740, poi a Gaeta nel 1742, dove incontrÚ Pasquale Paoli. Tornato in Corsica dopo la morte del figlio nel 1750, riprese gradualmente l'attivit? politica, godendo della fiducia assoluta di Pasquale Paoli, in particolare nelle questioni riguardanti la Balagne.
