Malcolm Muggeridge's 1934 "Winter in Moscow" is partially about Stalin's starvation of the Ukrainian farmers. Stalin's second wife committed suicide in Nov '32, possibly over her concern. Skariatina was in Ukraine in 1932. She says she saw only prosperity and heard but one person's opinion to the contrary. Sunned spine. Bookplate, no other internal flaws. Printed early 19230s; CP date of 1925 but list at back with one book dated 1932. Book has four types of flaws: (1) Cover corners worn down to underlying boards. (images on both boards spotless) (2) Few spots on front pastedown upper corner, likely remnants from bookseller prices. (3) Extreme upper corner of about 10 pages (at book's center) turned, about 0.01" to 1/4". (4) Tw text only pages with closed tears repaired with archival tape. Tight. All three text block edges clean as new. Text, illustrations and both boards (which are very susceptable to scratching or staining) as bright & attractive as when first printed. VERY GOOD+ book, no DJ. 1925 cp, printed early 1930s. 9"x6".

Edwin Markham, William Butler Yeats, Joachim Miller & Henry Van Dyke all liked Bland's poetry of the outdoors in California. In particular Markham says of the book's second poem, "In Yosemite", ". It contains some lines that have true beauty. It is the most elaborate poem ever written on the marvelous valley". This opinion is printed at the start of the poem.
