König Ottokar II. und setzte den Landfrieden sowie die Hofrechtsprechung in Teilen des Reiches wieder durch. Im Rahmen seiner Möglichkeiten stärkte er das Königtum trotz der herausragenden Stellung der Kurfürsten. Außerdem legte er die Grundlage für die Macht seiner Familie. Er gilt außerdem als eine der populärsten Herrscherfiguren des deutschen Mittelalters.

Flat spine title in gilt., Sadi the prominante persian poet studied in Baghdad, where he met Suhrawardi, the founder of the Ishraqi or "Illumination" School whose original writings, attempted a synthesis of Zoroastrian, Platonic, and Islamic ideas; interpreting the Platonic Ideas in terms of Zoroastrian angelology. The "Orient" of his "Oriental Theosophy" is the symbolic Orient, the East and the dawn as the symbol of Spiritual Light and Knowledge. Sadi having to flee Baghdad because of the Mongol threat, he went on a long journey that took him to central Asia and India, then to Yemen and Ethiopia through Mecca. Sadi was captured by the Franks in Syria and worked as slave labour until he was ransomed. He proceeded to N Africa and Anatolia, before returning to his native Shiraz in 1256. His Bustan [fruit garden], an ethical-didactic text, was composed in mathnawi (rhyming couplets). Even more popular is his Gulistan [Garden of Roses], written in rhyming prose. Sadi is also the author of many qasidas (long panegyrics) in Persian and Arabic, of mystic ghazal (love poems), and of satiric poetry. Editor's and author's note, index, and chapter one with woodcut headpieces ("MM") and decorated opening initials: one jester and one frog. Final blank with elaborate woodcut diamond ornament. Biblical references as printed marginalia throughout. Later mottled French calf, spine gilt in four compartments with floreate ornament, red morocco lettering label "VIRTVTV VITIOR," four raised bands, edges speckled red, marbled endpapers, blue silk bookmark laid in; (some lighter edgewear: front joint splitting, corners lightly bumped, narrow margins, otherwise internally clean and sound copy). Twoearlier owner inscriptions on front flyleaf, one in brown ink, possibly "Barsias," and later inscribed and dated with names of two towns in the Netherlands: Tilburg, 1899 and Uden, 1902. Title verso rubber stamped by the Dutch library in Ginneken. Nicolas de Hanapes, a 13th century Dominican prelate, author, and historian and Patriarch of Jerusalem, composed this moral treatise, his main work, sometime in the 1280s. Known by several other titles into the 16th century, namely first as the Liber de exemplis sacraescripturae, it comprised thousands of exempla into short chapters dealing with ethics in biblical narrative and, among other ideas, the pull of the vices and virtues. Nicolas de Hanapes's index of virtues and vices index allowed preachers to find the biblical story toillustrate their sermons with ease. According to the Bibliographie des éditions parisiennes du 16e siècle, there are at least five editions that precede this one: two in 1538, 1540, 1547, and 1548. And according to French Books (p. 1236), there are four separate editions from different Parisian presses in 1560; by Gabriel Buon, Claude Frémy, Nicolas Chesneau, and this pocket edition by Maurice Ménier. Despite heavy interest in reprinting this work, copies are still of utmost rarity and this title is seemingly understudied. Additionally, little is known to history about the 16th century Dominican cleric and editor Massimo Trocheo, or in Latin: Maximus Trochaeus, from Treviso. USTC locates 3 copies (USTC 153025) and OCLC notes only other copy printed by Ménier in 1560 in the University of York (OCLC 931285847).French Books III & IV, no. 80768.
