Contact seller5-star seller1st printing (Gimbel H95). 1 / 250 cc. 19, [1 (blank)] pp. Frontispiece [faded, with offset from t.p. lettering]. 6-3/8" x 4-1/8" Dickens, then 23, met Catherine when she was 19, the two becoming engaged in 1835, subsequently married in 1836 at St Luke's Church, Chelsea, going on their honeymoon in Chalk, near Chatham in Kent. They set up a home in Bloomsbury, and went on to have ten children over the next 15 years, and at least two miscarriages. During that period, Charles wrote that even if he were to become rich and famous, he would never be as happy as he was in that small flat with Catherine. However, such bliss was not to last. Dickens eventually became disenchanted with Catherine, ultimately seperating in May 1858. Here, Christie traces the ancestry of Catherine back to her great-grandmother Anne Stirling and great-grandfather Robert Thomson. According to the preliminary text, Christie died shortly before publication, in Dickens centennary birth year. This work uncommon in the trade, the first time we've ever been able to offer a copy. Hint of age-toning. Label remnants in upper corner of inside front cover. A VG+ copy. Printed buff paper covers, stapled. Now housed in a clear archival mylar sleeve.…
