Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson was first published in May 1919 by B.W. Huebsch. The book is a cycle of interrelated short stories centered on the fictional town of Winesburg, based on Anderson's hometown of Clyde, Ohio. Many of the stories originally appeared in literary magazines such as The Masses and The Seven Arts before being revised and compiled into the final volume. Though initial sales were modest, the book quickly gained critical acclaim for its psychological depth and modernist style, influencing writers like Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner. It has since become a landmark in American literature and has been reissued numerous times, including notable editions by Viking Press and Modern Library.
