Signed by Braucht on the title page. Previous owner's mailing label inside the front cover. Abandoned by his parents when he was almost five, John Braucht was placed in an orphanage and adopted by a family, whose high morals became the cornerstone shaping his life. At age 19, feeling the strong call of patriotism, he joined the United States Army. At age 24, John earned his wings and became a pilot in the Army air Corps. He was sent to England to destroy Nazi weapons transportation in Germany. While flying back from a dangerous mission, he was attacked by three Nazi war plants. He valiantly defeated two attackers, but was shot down over the English Channel by the third. Rescued from treacherous waters by the British, John an American pilot, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by Britain's Royal Air Force. Johns life was spared for a purpose. Part of this purpose was for him to share his intriguing saga of how tragic beginnings can have heroic endings. Fascinating snapshot in time from 1922 to 2000, covering major and minor events of most of the Twentieth Century, social conditions, and--of course--service in World War II.

Many of the authors were scholar-practitioners, who utilized their unique talents to present articles from various specializations, such as Asian Studies, kinesiology, history, anthropology, philosophy, and physical education. Those who were serious about this field subscribed to the journal to read articles noted for their high academic and aesthetic standards. Most were in the United States, Canada, and Europe, but also in other areas of the world. These naturally included martial art schools and individual practitioners. There was a strong base among university and public libraries too. As founder of Via Media, I've decided to assemble this anthology of articles relating to taijiquan. There are over three hundred million taiji practitioners worldwide, drawn to the art mainly for health maintenance and it therapeutic value. Researchers can benefit from this handy anthology, particularly for the information and analyses presented, including the rich bibliographic listings. Taiji practitioners will also gain insights to benefit their own practice, be it for health and/or self-defense.
