Preceded by Diplomatic History of Persia, 1917-1923, published in 1952, Dr. Saifpour Fatemi outlined the power and resource politics in the years intervening and following World War I by Russia and the United Kingdom in his homeland. Oil Diplomacy picks up where he left off in describing the diplomatic negotiations between the UK, Russia and Iran in staking a claim to the finite resource of oil. The author's own brother, Hosayn Fatemi, was a force behind endorsing the nationalization of the oil industries while minister of foreign affairs, actions which would later find him convicted by a military court of treason against the Shah and executed in 1953, a year prior to the book's publication. Very good book, text block pages lightly toned and dust-soiled; very good dust jacket, spine lightly chipped at ends with short open tears and rubbed creases, lower cover soiled, else edge wear with some creasing at corners. Octavo (6 x 8-3/4 inches) black cloth boards with gilt spine titles in pictorial dust jacket, [iv] xi [xii] xxix [xxx] 405 [3] pp.

Condition: Gut. XXIX, 405 Seiten. - "While in the United States he represented Iran at UNESCOs regional conference held in 1947 in New York and served as Irans delegate to the United Nations from 1952 to 1953. It was during this period that Mohammad Mosaddeq, now Irans Prime Minister, travelled to the United States to attend the Security Councils session on the Anglo-Iranian oil dispute [.] Saifpour Fatemi produced works in Persian and in English. In one of the most noted among them, Oil Diplomacy: 'Powderkeg in Iran', he provides a wealth of information on the oil dreams of the Soviet Union and Great Britain in Iran (pp. 233-39) and on the secessionist movements in Azerbaijan and Kurdistan and the power struggle in which the Tudeh Party played a significant role." (Encyclop. Iranica). - "Here unfolds the real story behind the rise and fall of Musaddeq, the tangled web of diplomacy running from Teheran to London, to Washington, to Paris, the Hague and to Moscow. No one aware of the importance of the Near East, of the new and awesome responsibilities of the West- especially the United States- in this vital frontier, can afford to pass up this significant study." - Einband gering angestaubt, Innendeckel gebräunt und gering fleckig. Kleiner Archivstempel auf fliegendem Vorsatz. - Insgesamt gutes Exemplar. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 990 8° (17,5-22,5 cm). Orig.-Leinenband mit Titelprägung auf dem Rücken.
