Blautoniger Kupferstich in Crayonmanier nach Jean-Baptiste Hüet (1745-1811), 25,5 x 18 cm. - Bis zum Bildrand beschnitten und montiert, die linke obere Ecke mit leichter Knickspur. Nr. 517 einer Serie mit der Verlagsadresse "rue de la Pelterie à la Cloche". Der aus Lüttich stammende Demarteau wurde 1746 Meister in Paris und entwickelte hier die Technik der Crayonmanier zu solcher Vollkommenheit weiter, dass es oft schwierig ist, seine Reproduktionen von originalen Kreidezeichnungen zu unterscheiden.

Demarteau lernte die Metallgravur und das Goldschmiedehandwerk bei seinem Vater und gründete 1755 in Paris eine Stecherwerkstatt und einen Kunstverlag. Bekannt ist Demarteau für die Entwicklung einer eigenen Methode, um Kreidezeichnungen täuschend echt zu drucken.
