Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents an exploration into the etiology and pathogenesis of pellagra, a disease that has historically afflicted populations subsisting largely on maize. The authors, recognized scientists, build upon the epidemiological research of one of them (Alessandrini) and the chemical analysis of the other (Scala) to explore the causes of the debilitating disease. Informed by colloidal chemistry, the authors propose that the root cause of pellagra is the ingestion of silica in colloidal solution in water originating from or flowing through argillaceous terrains. They back their theory with multifaceted experimentation on animals and analysis of water from pellagrous zones. Presenting a novel perspective on the origins of pellagra, this book will appeal to scientists and medical practitioners alike, as well as those with a general interest in public health. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

  • Seller image for PAOLO VI. IMMAGINI D'UN PONTIFICATO for sale by CivicoNet, Libreria Virtuale

Brossura. Condition: nuovo. Dust Jacket Condition: ottimo. prima edizione. FONDO DI MAGAZZINO PARI AL NUOVO. LIEVI SEGNI DEL TEMPO. RARO. Three vintage postcard photographs from the 1942 Italian film, and four vintage studio still photographs from the 1986 restoration and re-release of the film. Of particular note among the studio still photographs is an image of writer Ayn Rand taken by Leonard McCombe, capturing Rand waiting to testify on communism in Hollywood to the House Un-American Affairs Committee on October 20, 1947. "We the Living" was Rand's first published statement against communism, and its faithful adaptation by director Goffredo Alessandrini, released as two separate films, caused a predictable stir all over Europe. The initial release never left the continent, and was shuttered in a vault for over 25 years. It was then rescued by Rand herself in the late 1960s, restored, and made its US premiere at the Telluride Film Festival in 1986. Studio still photographs: 8 x 10 inches. Fine. Postcard photographs: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Near Fine. All materials housed together in a white glassine sleeve.
