The Champion was a British weekly boys' story paper published by Amalgamated Press, which ran from January 28, 1922 until March 19, 1955.[1] Its original editor was F. Addington Symonds. From 1929 until 1940 it had a monthly, pocket-sized companion paper, The Champion Library, containing characters from The Champion and its sister paper The Triumph.[2] The Triumph eventually was merged into The Champion in 1942. The title was revived in 1966 for a short lived publication which merged with Lion. (Wikipedia) 5 CONSECUTIVE ISSUES IN GOOD TO VERY GOOD CONDITION. Includes 'Rockfist Rogan, R.A.F.' (Hal Wilton), Gusty Gale (Reg Wilson), Colwyn Dane ,Spy Hunter (Mark Grimshaw) and Trapper Pete and His Racing Huskies (Rupert Hall). Some rust from old staples (which have been removed). Some age-discolouration to the paper, a little wear to the edges. Previous owner's penciled name has ben erased from front covers leaving a very feint mark. No. 1,186 some light marking on back cover. Any other imperfections minor/negligile. SEE SCANS. 16 pages each issue.

The colour images themselves are still very good, the amateur colouring leads me to think they didn't become professional artists. The colour paper covered boards are a little worn at spine and the very bottom edge.

Some light pencil annotations on front free endpaper else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In it original pictorial dust wrapper, rubbed on corners, spine ends and joints, a little shelf wear.

Not dated but circa 1930. 160pp, with colour plate frontispiece and four further colour illustrations, numerous line drawings and sketches throughout, colour decorated endpapers. In pictorial boards with linen spine (boards are worn and heavily rubbed and a little chipped and indented at edges, rounded and scuffed on corners and spine ends, where the cloth is worn). Hinges cracked, some mild occasional spotting, and the 'belongs to' section has been filled in. A little loose but holding.

Binding is tight with hinges securely attached. Yellow boards are vibrant and pointed with minimal wear. Dust jacket is missing entirety of front panel; only backside + flap is present - as pictured.

A little bit of wear to the edges and corner tips. Top edge still dark and fresh looking. Fore and bottom edges have a tiny bit of foxing and soil. The endpapers have faint offsetting from jacket flap. Inside pages are clean and unmarked. The dust jacket has heavy wear to the edges, spine ends, and folds, including chips, tears and creases. There is a long tear from the top of the spine that extends 3.5" across the front panel. The rear white panel shows some soil. The first title in a series of four books which feature the five Warrender children. Illustrated in black and white.
