Binding tight and appears little read. Internally clean, no annotation or inscriptions; text, music and decoration bright and clear throughout. Photographs available.

Minor bumping on all corners. Pages are well bound. There is a small smudge/stain on the text block edge at about the half way mark. DJ is in good shape, but not great. Price has been clipped. There is wear on all edges, with some chipping. DJ top of spine has been repaired with tape. There is a new mylar cover to prevent further deterioration. Pictures upon request.

Cloth very gently pushed at spine ends. In its original dust wrapper, decorated with stylised lettering, very slightly bumped at extreme edges, not price clipped. Donald Swann sets to music Tolkien's poetic cycle; one of the melodies being based on Tolkien's own tune and another of the songs contains the longest example of the language Quenya, thus assisting in the analysis of both Tolkien's vision of middle-earth and his languages. The introduction expands on middle-earth and was, until The Silmarillion was published, the only published information on the first age of Middle-earth. A lovely, smart copy of this very hard to find second edition.

Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Tolkien approved all apart from the sixth song, a setting of Galadriel's farewell from Là rien, 'Namárie', which Tolkien conceived in his mind as a Gregorian plainchant. To this theme Swann added an introduction, interlude, and coda set for the guitar. Hammond B28b.
