Condition: Sehr gut. 144 Seiten, zahlr. s/w. Abb. Sehr gutes Exemplar mit geringfügigen Gebrauchsspuren, Schutzumschlag etw. berieben und minimal rissig. / EN: Very good copy with minor signs of wear, dust jacket slightly rubbed and minimally cracked. - Russian Constructivist architecture was born in 1917 in vigorous response to a dynamic and unprecedented historical situation that challenged the artist to abandon the past, to construct the concrete expression of the young Soviet state, and to lay the foundations of a new culture. It resulted in the brief flowering of the first truly socialist architecture-an architecture that was to have world-wide influence. The ideals and intrepid experimentation of the Constructivists are still communicable and they still matter today. Their battles have not been won, whether in Russia or the West. Growing interest, both within the Soviet Union and elsewhere, in the pioneers of Constructivist architecture and their achievements therefore makes a reappraisal of the individual architects who created the historic years of Constructivism particularly interesting and timely. In the belief that understanding of the period would be best conveyed by Russians, Architectural Design magazine invited Professor Shvidkovsky to edit an issue (February 1970) on the Russian Constructivists. Building in the USSR 1917-1932 is an amplified and revised version of the material published in that issue. The additions include extra illustrations and articles on Melnikov and the Vesnin brothers. Professor Shvidkovsky has published numerous articles and books on architectural history. Particularly worthy of mention is Town Planning in Czecho-slovakia. He has contributed to the General History of Art and the History of Russian Art. Since 1968 he has been deputy director of the Institute of Art History at Moscow Institute of Art and Aesthetics." / Contents: Creative trends by S. O.
