Rubbing to edges and corners with soiling and scratches to front and back. Touch of sunning to spine and shallow wrinkling to rear board. Newer endpapers. French-folded pages with scotch tape applied to several edges. Several closed tears with tape applied. A few closed tears to page edges.Light spotting throughout. Sophia Rosamond Praeger (1867-1954) was a sculptor and illustrator, born and eventually settled in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland. She attended the School of Art in Belfast under George Trobridge and Slade School of Fine Art under Alphonse Legros, winning a silver medal for drawing. She illustrated a series of children's books to help make a living, some written by her. Her most famous sculpture, The Philosopher, made her name when shown at RA in 1920. Praeger was an honorary member of RHA and a member and president of RUA. Also exhibited at Belfast Art Society and at Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. (from Art UK).

New plain end papers as above, previous owner name in ink to preliminary blank, other such oval ink name and place rubber stamp to half title and reverse of frontis- Africa Oriental Mossurize, offset browning from tissue guard to frontis and title (guard removed in course of re-backing) mild foxing to fore and bottom edges and to last few leaves of catalogue at rear.
