Hardcover. First Edition. 379 pgs, 4 maps, photographs, appendix, index. Very good hardcover copy in cloth. Light wear to corners and edges; top edge gilt; a few marginal notes in light pencil. Previous owner's bookplate. "Friday, July 29th [1864]: We made an early start. Met some stragglers from the Sixth Corps not behaving creditably. We stopped within a mile of Urbana, put up at an old-fashioned country tavern, and I slept in the garret." (804).

Edgewear and rips in cloth covering to lightly bumped and scratched boards. Discolored scratch across spine and discoloration to spine end. Toning to textblock. Ink note to free endpaper, with bleeding to verso side and light transfer of ink note to pastedown. Slightest spotting to endpapers. Touch of offsetting to rear endpapers. Starting at verso of frontispiece page. Offsetting to bottom of DJ verso. Edgewear, offsetting, and light soiling to scratched DJ. Open 1 cm by 2 cm tear to rear DJ joint. VG/VG.
