Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This thought-provoking book is a collection of 19th-century letters between a clergyman and a layperson, sparked by a conversation about the impartiality of the American government. The author delves deep into the complex topic of maritime law, examining the legality of blockades and t…he impact of French and British belligerency against neutral nations. Exploring the theme of national interest versus international law, the author sheds light on the contentious issue of diplomatic relations during wartime. Through a series of well-argued exchanges, the letters reveal the challenge of maintaining neutrality in a time of conflict while highlighting the importance of ethical governance and diplomacy in resolving international disputes. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. This volume is a condensed version of two earlier publications in 1840 - and forming part of the subsequent Sportsman's Library series; edited by Sir Herbert Maxwell, Bart, M.P. According to the editor, there had been some contention around the authorship; perhaps caused by the designation of 'A Cosmo…polite.' The author was 'really Serjeant Allen' (of the Irish Bar). Google AI would appear to validate the claim. This is a rather appealing book with half vellum/marbled binding, TEG, olive green endpapers, uncut pages. There are over twenty listed illustrations by P. Chenevix Trench - with tissue guards over the colour ones. Condition (external): mild to moderate edgewear. The vellum along the spine is particularly rubbed to the extent that the book's title towards the head of the spine is no longer visible (main image). Condition (internal): mild to moderate tanning throughout with occasional spotting; more evident on the book's preliminary and final pages - especially the spotting. FFEP has an ink signature. pp. xv, 306. 8vo. More information & photos on request. Please note that, depending on destination, we may request a payment to cover any extra shipping & postage charges.
