THe demand for this work was such that the printing issue was immediately exhausted. Fortunately the artist's dialogue with his heritage continues and the present volume allows us to participate in more of his observations. When asked about his reason for selecting a subject for drawing. Jack Peake replied. I expect my choice is determined by the fact that I find a strong human element the builders, who carved corinthian capitals, who dressed Ashlars to bond into walls, who fashioned timber to interesting shapes on forged metal to destine forms. I find interest also in the people who were associated with the buildings , be they the leaders of the community on humble labourers - their lives are history - they are our heritage. This account suggests that our heritage involves a conservation between nature and history, The drawing are of structures which, whether simple or complex, affirm possibilities of human relationship. For this and other reasons the representation gathered in this volume comprise a permanent gain. The history sketches are Adelaide, South Australian sketches a total of 51.
