Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Early edition, assumed first, of a scarce title. Marbled paper boards and leather covered spine. Covers and spine very tatty and worn. Pages very grubby, browned and spotted with some dark marks and creases. Title page particularly dark. Looks like the page edges were originally red, but now very dustmarked and browned. Front inner hinge cracked but binding otherwise holding. Previous owner has annotated many of the aphorisms with his or her thoughts - which are fascinating in themselves! In its favour, this is a scarce title and the text is legible throughout, so Fair overall, perhaps a little better, considering its age.…

General wear, frayed at edges, rubbed, grubby, head and foot of spine chipped, spine creased, page edges very age-toned, foxed, water stain to edges of front endpapers, half-title and title page.
