Il est l'oeuvre de la collaboration improvisée de plusieurs membres de la Section d'Auvergne. Quelques semaines avant la date du Congrès, le bureau de la Section avait décidé qu'un itinéraire des diverses excursions serait imprimé et distribué aux congressistes. On se partagea le travail de rédaction, et quand chacun eut apporté son contingent, il se trouva qu'au lieu d'un simple itinéraire, on avait presque un ouvrage d'ensemble sur l'Auvergne [ . ]".
