Seller: Sea Chest Books, Tucumcari, NM, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Poor. Hardcover 12 mo in poor condition. Disbound. Sits inside two very worn brown paper covered board covers as a loose group of pages and grouped signatures. Also includes, tucked within the pages, many handwritten recipes on slips and scraps. Many of the pages are chipped and worn around the edges. From the Preface; "The compiler, in offering to the public this volume of carefully tried receipts, feels that it will supply a long felt want, and fill a place as yet unfilled. The great objection to the majority of Cook Books is, the receipts are too extravagant. This has been carefully avoided in the present volume." There is a strange note written in pencil on the inside cover; "This is the Property of Josh Perry of 104 Waverly St.If any body tares (takes?) or destroys this book shall find themselfs in Sing Sing prison for three years". It is quite well destroyed, but appears to be from use, rather than vandalism. It is a great little piece of culinary history, well used, and with many handwritten recipes. There is only one other edition on WorldCat, published two years later by Lilley, and a print on demand copy online. 120 pp.
