Soft Cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. A heavily illustrated book about the works, process, career and cultural impact of Finnish Designer Eero Aarnio. Text in English and Japanese. 160 pp. Born in Finland in 1932, Eero Aarnio received his degree in Interior Architecture in 1957 from the Atheneum Institute of Industrial Arts, Helsinki. Prior to setting up his independent practice, he consecutively worked at the design studios of llmari Tapiovaara and of Antti Nurmesniemi. He gathered experience in the commercial field through his work as in-house designer at Asko Oy. from 1960 to 1962. He initiated an independent practice in Helsinki later that same year. During this period, he developed the designs for the Mushroom series, Ball Chair, Polaris, Pastil, Bubble Chair, Tomato and Pony, among other projects. Aarnio relocated his practice to Cologne, Germany during the period from 1978 to 1982, after which he returned to Finland, where since then he continues to live and work Eero Aarnio has developed furniture and products for a wide range of Finnish and international companies. His work has been extensively covered by the media and exhibited internationally since the 1960's. Among other awards, Aarnio received the Compasso d'Oro in 2005 for his Trioli chair (Magis) and in 2008 he was granted the Kaj Franck Design Prize for his trajectory. His work has been selected to be part of numerous international collections such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among others.
