Un chargement d'une dizaine de filles de joie, qu'on s'apprêtent à déporter pour l' Amérique crée l'ébullution. Parmi les prostituées, une particulièrement attire son attention, malgré son triste état apparent. Renoncour se renseigne auprès du chef de convoi sur cette jeune personne. Ce dernier lui dit qu »elle vient de l'Hopital Général et qu'à maintes reprises il l'a interrogé et qu'elle a toujours gardé le silence. Il l'invite ensuite à aller interroger un jeune homme. Il accompagne depuis Paris la jeune fille et parait désespéré. C'est un jeune garcon de noble allure. Il refuse de parler à Renoncour. Book.
