Giovanni di Torino. Nel 1841 entro' a far parte come membro ordinario della R. Societa' agraria (che due anni dopo cambio' nome in R. Accademia d'agricoltura), e fu tra i firmatari dell'atto di costituzione dell'Associazione agraria piemontese. Dal 1830, anno in cui egli vinse il concorso bandito dalla Societa' agraria per l'incremento della produzione della potassa, diede impulso alla chimica applicata all'agricoltura con lavori sul processo di estrazione dello zucchero dalla barbabietola, sul trattamento delle malattie delle patate e della vite.
