This edition contains the groundbreaking "deep space" astronomical photographs, which were not present in the first edition. Rare.Agnes Mary Clerke (1842-1907), renowned Irish historian of astronomy and scientific writer was a member of the Royal Astronomical Society. Andrew Ainslie Common (1841-1903), English amateur astronomer, is considered the founder of astrophotography or "deep-space photography", which means photography of celestial objects that cannot be perceived by the human eye but are possible through long exposure times. His most famous photograph is that of Orion Nebula (1883) of which a photomechanical copy (Woodbury type) is included as the frontispiece of this book.
