Coronò la sua carriera con importanti donazioni finanziarie che permisero la costruzione di lunghi tratti di quella Passeggiata Tappeiner che è oggi un affascinante sinonimo di Merano. Pochi sanno, tuttavia, che Tappeiner non fu soltanto medico e mecenate: si dedicò infatti anche agli studi botanici e antropologici, tessendo una importante rete di relazioni con l'élite scientifica del suo tempo. Si tratta del primo volume della collana "Merabilia" edita dal Palais Mamming Museum: il libro non indaga solo l'epoca di Franz Tappeiner ma pone l'accento anche su quelle scelte lungimiranti assunte agli albori del Novecento che ancora oggi caratterizzano il volto e il senso di Merano.
