Scarce biography of Robert A Scott Macfie, one of the leading authorities in Britain on Roma/Gypsies and their language, president (between 1907 - 1914) and editor of the Gypsy Lore Society and it's journal (1907 - 1935) and author of 'With Gypsies in Bulgaria (1913). He was responsible for preserving and recording a great many…dialects, as well as folk-tales and songs at the beginning of the 20th Century, as well as encouraging work by others through his involvement with the society. The special issue of the journal includes the memoir by Ackerley as well as memories of Macfie by his friends, a bibliographical list of his writings and two black and white photographs. Memoir of R.
