First volume of autobiography of Canadian violinist, broadcaster and lecturer, who was born in Latvia in 1901. This volume describes his first encounter with Canadian painter Emily Carr in 1927 of which he writes "What I saw was a little dumpy old lady, well on in her fifties, wearing tired, hand-me-down clothes. It wasn't long before I became aware that she also had a delightful smile and very beautiful eyes." 293 pages plus 16 plates with B&W photos.
