The Hayes text formed the 2nd part of the original Addison volume and retains it's separate 1718 title page and pagination ([25] - 53, and 3 pages of postscript. ) The Addison text lacks his original Latin portion which comprised pages 1 - 23. Bound in early 19th century 1/4 leather and marbled paper boards. Tooled gilt "chain" rules to spine and Sidney volume title in gilt to spine. Attractive circular cut-paper bookplate with monogram H. L. Is mounted to front pastedown. Extensive biographical notes regarding Sidney are penned in a very close and exceptionally neat hand at front pastedown, endpage and verso.
