The publication is richly illustrated with exterior and interior photographs as well as architectural details (floor plans, cross-sections) of the theatre. - The building was constructed between 1911 and 1913 by the architects William Lossow and Max Hans Kühne and was inaugurated as Germany's first civic court theatre. The facade combines elements of Neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau to visually harmonize with the Zwinger Palace opposite. At the time of its opening, the stage technology, with its retractable floors and hydraulic systems, was considered state-of-the-art.
