The homily utilized in the book is one of the few surviving samples of the English literary tradition during the period. The author's analysis focuses on the language of the homily, particularly its grammar and vocabulary, through the lens of its rhyme and meter. Metrical homilies, like the one examined in this book, employed rhyme as a key element in the religious instruction of largely illiterate populations. This book also explores the ways in which social changes of the time are reflected in the homilies. The author concludes that the homily examined is an important record of the literary and religious culture of medieval England. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
