View of Huis ter Nieuburch in Rijswijk (Voormalige Huis ter Nieuburch (Nieuwburg) in Rijswijk), seen from the North-East. In 1697, in this palace was signed the Treaty of Rijswijk. Neglected for a long time, the palace was destroyed in 1789.Titled above on a ribbon: 'RYSWYCK'.Within the framing engraving is the dedication: 'All'Illustrissimo, & Eccellentissimo S. PIETRO GARZONI, Savio Grande, Storiografo Pibblico.' It refers to the Venetian Pietro Garzoni (1645-1735) who published a History of Venice and actively participated to the political life in Venice.The central impression is a copy after the 1681 etching by Cornelis Elandts (1641-1687) designed to be on the margin of a large map of The Hague from 1681-1682. See the Rijksmuseum copy with bibliographic indications: RP-P-OB-76.677. This copy was probably used as plate in an unknown publication as on the top left corner is inscribed: 'II, 13a'; on the top right corner, in pen and ink is the number '131.' Etching and engraving on paper, two plates in one sheet; internal plate: 125 x 180 mm, external plate: 252 x 331 mm, total: 263 x 343 mm; on 18th century laid paper; some smudges on the bottom right corner and bottom margin, otherwise in very good condition. Profile portrait of Jacobu Hollebeek (1593-1650) theologian in Amsterdam at the age of 57. An earlier version of this portrait was engraved by Jonas Suyderhoef. In this case the composition is mirrored; the title is preserved: 'IACOBUS HOLBEKIUS THEOLOGIS ECCLESIASTES AMSTELREDAMENTIS.' The plate has been altered by Tangena after it was engraved and published b Jan Cralinge. At the bottom of the portrait eight lines of Dutch text by H. F. Waterloos.
