Wish card of Pentecost; Engraved frame with handwritten text. The wreath is a rough copy in reverse after that realized by Monogrammist IFL [see Rijksmuseumprentkabinet RP-P-OB-77.689]. Virgin Mary is kneeling in the center at the bottom of the page, surrounded by the apostles, all receiving the Holy Ghost in shape of a flame above their heads. The decoration continues on the sides with floreal motives closed above by two putti holding two branches. In the center a dove representing the Holy Ghost. The text is a short poem signed by Johanna Doncan. Nice exercise of calligraphy. The text reads: 'Pinxter Briev: / Op het Feest derEerstelingen, / Door Godt zelve ingezet. Johanna Doncan' Numbered above on the right: 'N. 53'. A date has been added on the bottom of the signature with a different ink: '1779', however this card might be created earlier, certainly later than 1774. On the verso in brown ink: 'Waarde Neef En Nicht Harme Bakker'. Broadside sheet . Etching in brown ink and pen in brown ink on paper, total: 418 x 328 mm; tears along the margins and text fading; two small holes due to folding; paper with watermark reference to the original print in Buijnsters-Smets, Leontine. Decoratieve Prenten Met Geschreven Wensen: 1670-1870 (2007) p. 54-59.
