Abgezogen von der Original-Kupferplatte der Ausgabe 1680.- Das Dorf Maria Langegg liegt in der gleichnamigen Katastralgemeinde der niederösterreichischen Gemeinde Bergern im Dunkelsteinerwald. Der frühneuzeitliche Kirchenort in fürsterzbischöflich-salzburgerischem Besitz scheint urkundlich 1429 als "Langegg" auf und wird seit dem 17. Jahrhundert als "Maria Langegg" bezeichnet.

Langegg, wie der Ort bis in das 17. Jahrhundert hieß, wird erstmals 1429 urkundlich erwähnt und gehörte zur fürsterzbischöflich-salzburgischen Grundherrschaft. Salzburg war im Besitz der riesigen Wälder, die erst relativ spät ab dem 14./15. Jahrhundert gerodet wurden. Als Mittelpunkt des Forstbezirks wurde 1582 der noch erhaltene Langegger Hof, das "Schlössl", erbaut, das 1599 der salzburgische Güterinspektor Matthäus Häring (Haring) erwarb, mit dem die Geschichte der Wallfahrt begann. 1652 wurde mit dem Bau des Servitenklosters begonnen, das erst über achtzig Jahre später, 1733/34, fertiggestellt werden konnte.

Das Kloster wurde 1380 durch Heidenreich von Maissau gegründet. Von 1387 bis 1391 war Michael von Prag Prior von Aggsbach. Bis in das 18.Jahrhundert war das Kloster Eigentümer von mehreren Herrschaften in Niederösterreich (darunter Purgstall, Seiterndorf, Großmugl, Külb, Kühbach und Strohdorf). 1782 wurde das Kloster durch Kaiser JosephII. aufgehoben und in ein Schloss umgewandelt.
