As estirpes de PGPR são conhecidas por sobreviverem tanto na… rizosfera como na filosfera. Várias estirpes de Pseudomonas demonstraram activar ISR nas plantas contra muitas doenças fúngicas, bacterianas e virais. Em resposta a isto, os biofungicidas, derivados quer de micróbios quer de plantas, surgiram como estratégias alternativas promissoras. Neem (Azadirachta indica), alho (Allium sativum), cebola (Allium cepa) e poucas outras plantas inibem o míldio da batata e do tomate.
