Mass Market Paperback. Condition: Good. Illustrated by Lehr, Paul (cover) (illustrator). Spine slightly creased, rolled, a little edge wear and rubbing. Upper corners of last 30 pages have some moisture related waviness. Some tanning but text is clean and unmarked. A solid copy. "The townspeople would have said Larking, with its stone rectory and thatched farmhouses, was typical of a thousand other English villages. As it happened, this was true. And everyone in Larking thought they knew everything about everyone else. In that they found they were mistaken. . . especially the morning the postman found Grace Jenkins murdered. She had lived quietly at Boundary Cottage for twenty-one years, but there was a great deal about Grace the townspeople didn't know. And Detective Inspector C. D. Sloan soon discovered they knew ever less about her daughter, Henrietta . . . in fact, nobody could explain who Henrietta really was. "; 6¾" - 7¾" Tall.

Mass Market Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Illustrated by Lehr, Paul (cover) (illustrator). Spine a bit creased and slanted, corners bumped, a little edge wear and rubbing. Some tanning but text is clean and unmarked. A nice copy. "On the pathologists's cold metal table lay the naked body of Beatrice Gwendoline Wansdyke, spinster . . . Dead of perfectly natural causes at age 59. "The problem," mused the good doctor, "is not so much what she died from as what she died with: a quarter of a million pounds, in a bank account no maiden lady of modest means should have." Detective Inspector C. D. Sloan could feel in his bones it was murder. He had guessed at the motive. He would surely uncover the method. But why couldn't he find out where-oh-where had her little dog gone? And why would looking almost cost him his life?"; 6¾" - 7¾" Tall.

A nice copy. "'Found drowned, my foot,' said the pathologist two minutes after looking at the body. The unidentified young man pulled from the salt water near the little fishing village of Edsway hadn't drowned after all. And he hadn't been a bather either, observed Detective Inspector C.D. Sloan. One simply didn't go swimming in a shirt and trousers. Not voluntarily, that is. And then there was the matter of the mysterious copper weight stuffed in the dead man's pocket. . . and the sunken ship discovered offshore. It all added up to murder as Inspector Sloan set out in a dinghy to net the killer before he got the chance to send another victim to a watery grave."; 6¾" - 7¾" Tall.

Softcover. Condition: Fine. First Edition. 21cm x 21cm. 32 pages, map, illustrations. Pictorial wrappers. "The 'Wild Australia Show' was conceived by Archibald Meston and was a travelling troupe of 27 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people conscripted from the Queensland frontier who performed in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne during 1892 and 1893 in preparation for departure on an international tour in the era of World Exhibitions. However the plans were curtailed by contractual disputes, scandals of financial incompetence and accusations of the capture of certain troupe members against their will in chains. The exhibition came out of a meticulous process of collection and research by Queensland Museum senior curators Michael Aird and Mandana Mapar, and University of Queensland academic, Professor Paul Memmott who place the previously unknown images in a visual and historic context. This exhibition catalogue uses the same title of Meston's show of more than 120 years ago, Wild Australia, and gives human dignity to the names and faces of the people in the photographs, whose strength of spirit and determination are evident in the gazes of the portrait subjects."
