Soft cover. Condition: Good. Rare original 1882 April 13th issue of Vol. XIX of "The Journal of The Linnean Society: Botany," which contains Part 2 of Aitchison's, "On the Flora of the Kuram Valley &c., Afghanistan." The issue is in overall good condition with some signs of wear and age. It is illustrated with a folding map of Afghanistan and of 29 black and white botanical plates, a few of which are folding. The issue is softcover and bound in its original paper wrappers. The covers have some mild chipping and wear with a few small splits along the spine. The interior is lightly toned from age but is mostly nice and clean, though there may be the occasional page with some other kind of minor imperfection such as a light bit of foxing, minor spot of soiling or grubbiness, tiny chip or tear, creased page corner, etc. The last plate has a few small tears & some crease lines near the side margin. The issue measures approximately 8 3/4 inches by 5 1/2 inches.

Original Wraps. Condition: Very Good. A very solid copy, very lightly toned throughout, with no other markings within. Back cover mildly foxed. A bump to the top corner causes a slight bend to that corner of numerous pages--nothing a good press can't remedy. Overall, a quite desirable copy!

No Jacket. 1st Edition. 4to, 138 pp, 2 folding maps, 48 uncoloured lithograph plates drawn by Mrs M Smith, contemporary half calf binding with cloth sides, some bumping to the corners resulting in some light loss to the leather, all the plates have a stain around the outer margins of approximately 2 cm's but the images are largely unaffected, the text and maps are very clean. Institutional stamp on the reverse of one map and the title page. A scarce and important account by the naturalist attached to The Afghan Delimitation Commission of 1884 -1885. Aitchison collected over 10,000 botanical specimens of over 800 species, in excess of 100 species were new to science. Transactions of the Linnean Society, Botany Vol 3.

4to [30.5 x 24 cm]; 139 pp, 48 fine and detailed lithographed plates, 2 folding maps showing the author's route. contemporary black cloth, gilt spine title lettering, covers a little rubbed, signature on endpaper, a very good sound copy. The author collected 800 species and 10,000 specimens, of which he estimates 100 are new to science. He traveled extensively through eastern Persia and Afghanistan in 1184 and 1885 and describes the vegetation, his itinerary and the plants he collected.
