No Binding. Condition: Very Good. FIRST EDITION & FIRST PRINTING. An original framed watercolour by the artist John Knowles, working under the pseudonym "Lord Buxley". One of a humorous series depicting aquatic creatures with human characteristics and whimsical titles, this example portrays "Spike", a pike-like fish wearing a pirate bandana and eye patch. Particularly charming is the artist's inclusion of an attached paper tag suspended by string, inscribed: "Lord Buxley Aquarist by Appointment 'Spike'" The work combines strong draughtsmanship with humour and decorative appeal. Pencil construction lines from the original sketch remain visible beneath the finished watercolour, providing an interesting insight into the artist's working process. Presented in a substantial black wooden frame and professionally mounted beneath glass. Overall framed measurements approximately 27 inches by 23 inches. Visible image area approximately 17 inches by 13 inches. Condition: Painting in very good condition. Minor age-related wear and light scratching to the frame. The attached tag and string remain present and intact. Displays extremely well. A highly decorative and engaging original work by Lord Buxley, combining humour, character and skilled watercolour technique. John Knowles (illustrator). …
