Terwijl de natuur zich letterlijk na de winter ontwaakt, ontwaakt ook in hem de wil om opnieuw te leven. Hij ontmoet oude kameraadschappen, terugkerende familierelaties en verzoening met zijn verleden. Tegelijk worstelt hij met de stilte rond hem, de sneeuw die alles bedekt en de winterse kou die zijn innerlijke toestand reflecteert. De roman beschrijft zowel de uitwendige tocht door het winterlandschap als de innerlijke weg van genezing, herkenning en het openen van het hart voor een toekomst die nog vochtig is van de ochtenddauw. Dusar tekent in sobere maar krachtige beelden het contrast tussen sneeuwvelden, winterstilte en het vuur van menselijke verbondenheid. Het resultaat is een kleine, indringende roman waarin het seizoen als metafoor fungeert voor levensfasen, afscheid en nieuwe aanvang.
