L'invenzione degli occhiali era stata attribuita al frate pisano Alessandro Della Spina e ad altri inventori ancora, e, fra il Seicento e il Settecento, furono fabbricati ad arte documenti per avallare tali paternità in nome del pisano o fiorentino; le serrate dimostrazioni del dedicatario dell' opuscolo, il grande erudito e storico della letteratura Isidoro Del Lungo, smantellarono appunto tale false attribuzioni ed i documenti falsificati o distorti in tale senso.
