Wenige Monate vor seinem Tod an den Mathematiker Wilhelm Lorey in Leipzig über eine überstandene Krankheit sowie seinen Plan, in Oslo als Lektor aufzutreten, und mit Bedauern, dass Lorey noch kein Exemplar seines Werkes erhalten habe: "Ihr Brief hat mich nach langen Wanderungen heute endlich (2…Tage nach Ihrem Vortrag!) in Rimini erreicht. Entschuldigen Sie, dass der Abdruck noch nicht in Ihren Händen ist. Diese letzten Wochen habe ich mich unwohl gefühlt (Schlaflosigkeit, verbunden mit einer Erkältung und ziemlich hohem Fieber). Es war aber vor der Abreise vielerlei eilig zu erledigen. Die Versendung der Abdrücke hat darunter gelitten. Mein Gastspiel in Oslo im Frühjahr 1924 hat mir so viel Freude bereitet, dass ich recht gerne das Experiment wiederholen möchte wenn alles somit gut klappt. Vor Kurzem habe ich eine Einladung von der Londoner Universität bekommen, musste sie aber leider ablehnen, da ich die englische Sprache nicht genügend beherrsche, um in London als Lektor aufzutreten [.]".
