This book is an introductory analysis into the plant life found in the French region of Maine et Loire by the author who was a prominent botanist specializing in the flora of Anjou. Published in 1859, this text arose from the author's long term academic interest in the flora of the region and serves as an important historical document recording what species were present then. It combines the author's own research with prior works dating back to the 16th century. The author provides a deeply researched analysis of the region's flora with a precise history of the botanical study of Maine et Loire, identifying the major contributors to the field over the centuries and discussing which species they identified, introducing taxonomic revisions where necessary. Through meticulous examination of herbarium collections and analysis of individual specimens, the author is able to further clarify the location and prevalence of different species across the region. This volume is an essential reference for individuals interested in the present day flora of Maine et Loire or the history of botany in that region of France. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Couverture rigide.

This book presents an extensive compilation of plant species that flourish naturally within the Loire Basin, a vast region encompassing much of central France. The author, a distinguished botanist of the mid-19th century, offers a comprehensive guide to the diverse flora of this area, categorizing plants by department and providing detailed descriptions, local names, and historical references. Beyond its function as a regional catalog, the book explores the relationship between the Loire's geology, climate, and the distribution of its plant life, shedding light on the broader ecological dynamics that shape plant communities. In sum, this meticulously researched volume serves not only as a valuable reference for botanists but also as an illuminating study of the intricate interplay between geography and vegetation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
