Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, written with great impartiality, examines the causes of the frequent civil wars that have plagued Venezuela. It begins by analyzing the period from 1830 to 1847, when the nation transitioned from the idealistic fervor of independence to a state of disenchantment with republican practices. The book argues that this resulted from a lack of attention to basic industry and commerce and an unwillingness to participate in national administration. Misguided policies led to unrest and eventually civil war. The second period, from 1847 to 1858, saw a president attempting to conciliate the opposition but ultimately failing and being overthrown. The resulting conflict and subsequent power vacuum created ideal conditions for continued violence. A military leader exploited this instability, instituting a brutal dictatorship that lasted from 1858 to 1863. This period is characterized by political repression, economic hardship, and a general decline in Venezuelan society. Despite an end to the dictatorship, the following period from 1863 to 1870 was marked by further strife. The author argues that the root cause of these conflicts lay in the failure of the government to meet the needs of the people and its unwillingness to compromise with the opposition. By examining these historical events, the author provides a valuable perspective on the challenges faced by Venezuela in its quest for stability and progress. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
