In the original quarter cloth binding, with paper covered boards and paper spine label. Illustrated with a hand-coloured frontispiece, nine hand-coloured plates, and eighteen hand-coloured vignettes. Collated, complete. A delightful work covering the Italian Riviere and the Apennines, describing the topography and people who reside there. Alice Comyns Carr was a British costume designer associated with the Aesthetic dress movement and actress Ellen Terry. She was also the author of works beside 'North Italian Folk', including 'Margaret Maliphant' and 'The Arm of the Lord'. In the original quarter cloth binding, with paper covered boards and paper spine label.Externally, with toning to the spine and rubbing to the spine label. Rubbing to the extremities and marks to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound, with binding starting in places but firm. This work is split into two halves, the first covering the Italian Riviera, and the second covering the Apennines.Alice Comyns Carr (1850-1927) was a British costume designed associated with the Aesthetic dress movement, which preferred flowing, loose garments embellished with lace and embroidery. She was actress Ellen Terry's primary costume designer for over two decades, and created for her a costume which used iridescent beetle wings.
