First Edition. First Edition. Association Copy, INSCRIBED by translator Alice Raphael to playwright George Middleton and his wife, activist and actress Fola La Follette on the half-title page: "For Fola and George / in abiding affection / Ever Alice / Sept. 21. 1955." Middleton's nephew David's ownership stamp on the front pastedown. Middleton was also known for his collaborations with Guy Bolton, including the successful 1917 stage comedy "Polly With a Past," basis for the 1920 film adaptation. The daughter of Senator Robert M. "Fighting Bob" La Follette and women's suffrage leader Belle Case, Flora Dodge "Fola" La Follette was a stage actress, teacher, and writer as well as an activist for the women's suffrage and labor movements. She married Middleton in 1911. Very Good in wrappers, with moderate wear overall, a few small splashes on the bottom portion of the front wrapper, and a lightly faded spine. Signed.…
