[From Foreword] One hundred years have passed into history since that day when guns at Fort Sumpter roared defiance at the original Union of the United States of America. In four terrible years of bloodshed, often with brother fighting against brother, death snuffed the lives of half a million brave Boys in Blue and Boys in Gray. We are looking back over the period of a century, not with the view of opening old wounds but with soulsearching "for building a more perfect union". We are indebted to Dr. W. D. Allbeck for his careful research of the role which Clark County boys had in the the Civil War. The Clark County Historical Society thanks Dr. Allbeck for the picture of devotion, on the part of the Boys in Blue to the cause they considered right, he has given us. May all of us have a better understanding of this section of Clark County history by a careful reading of Clark County Boys in Blue.
