A graduate of Yale University (1909), Dodd also wrote under the pen name Robert Allen, and is the author of numerours short stories and the early science fiction novel Captain Gardiner of the International Police (1916). Dodd was the grandson of Moses Woodruff Dodd, a founder of the publishing firm Dodd, Mead & Company. He died in an accidental shooting at his home in Westport, Connecticut.
