Since the days before the Civil War the estate of Federal Hill, situated about one mile East of Bardstown, Kentucky, has been known as…The Old Kentucky Home. The name became popularly attached to it because of the fact that it was in this house that Stephen Collins Foster composed and wrote in 1852 his song 'My Old Kentucky Home.' The original rear wing of this house was built in 1795 by Judge John Rowan, United States Senator of Kentucky and one of the great lawyers of the early Western period.
